KNOW THE FACTS ABOUT VIRUS WARNINGS

Genealogists new to the World Wide Web eventually encounter a virus warning from an unknown person via email.  They often pass it along to everybody on their mail list, only to find out it was a hoax.  If you would like to read all about hoax warnings and how to recognize them, check out these websites...

Go to the IBM Antivirus Online at http://www.av.ibm.com/current/FrontPage/.  Then click on "Stopping Chain Letters & Hoaxes on the Internet."

Also, the Network Associates Services at http://www.nai.com/vinfo/.  Click on "Virus Hoax Information."

QUERIES

Cheryl Vogt is researching the Penney/Penny/Pinney family.  Specifically, John L. Pinney, who died in the Civil War.  Pinney served in the 2nd Alabama Regiment.  His wife was Mary Morrill, who filed for a widow's pension in Escambia County (Florida or Alabama).  John L. Pinney was possibly the brother of Vogt's great-grandfather, Joseph Jefferson Penney (born in Gadsden County, Florida).  Family tradition says Joseph's father immigrated in the early 1800s from "some Dutch Islands" with three sons, Joseph, John, and Matt; and one daughter.  If you have information on these families, write to Cheryl Vogt, P.O. Box 731, McIntosh, FL  32664, or email her at  <JAZMN1@aol.com>.

Mildred Stinson Brown is seeking the place of burial of Eliza Ann Jordan (born March 30, 1859, died circa 1893 from complications of childbirth), daughter of John Membrance Jordan, and wife of William David WilsonWilliam D. Wilson (son of David Russell Wilson and Matilda Ann Teat), is buried at Morgan Family Cemetery near Molino, Florida.  Write Mildred Brown at 2404 Oak Drive, Gatesville, TX  76529, or send her email at <Martyb1448@aol.com>.

Patricia Dodd Greathouse is seeking the parents and genealogical data about her 2nd great-grandfather, William James Allen (born in Virginia) who was married December 24, 1884, in Calhoun County, Alabama, to Arcadia Georgia Weaver (born in Alabama).  Allen children: Willenda E. Allen Dodd, Hattie Allen Diffley, Willie J. Allen Harper, Jeanette Allen Wright, and Lula Virginia Allen Gwin.  Reply to Patricia Dodd Greathouse, 1502 Nottingham Drive, Phenix City, AL  36867-1941 or email her at <Pgreatho01@aol.com
