Distinctives - Must Reading

John A. Broadus

.

Life and Letters of John A. Broadus by A. T. Robertson, Gano Books, 1901. (462 pages)

  • This is a grand book if for no other reason than Robertson studied under Broadus.

Sermons and Addresses, Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention: Nashville, TN, 1886. (302 pages) A good cross section of his teaching. Be sure and read the chapter, The Holy Scriptures, (pp. 155-166).

  • Favorite Sermons of John A Broadus, ed. by Vernon Latrelle Stanfield, Harper and Brothers: New York, 1959. (147 pages) Contains a very good and concise introduction to the ministry of Broadus.

Memoir of James Petigru Boyce, by John A. Broadus, A.C. Armstrong and Son: New York, 1893. (371 pages)

  • An excellent biography of the founder of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Be sure and note the chapter which details the influence Princeton Seminary and Charles Hodge had on Boyce's life (pp. 67-83).
