Various Books

/
Baptist Theologians, by Timothy George and David S. Dockery, Broadman Press: Nashville, TN, 1990. (704 pages)

  • This is the resource book for a study of Baptist theologians. The book contains a short biography and analysis of thirty three Baptist preachers and teachers. This is a must have! Read the review here on-line.

By His Grace and for His Glory, by Tom Nettles, Baker Book House: Grand Rapids, MI, 1986. (442 pages)

  • The sub-title sums up this book well: A Historical, Theological, and Practical Study of the Doctrines of Grace in Baptist Life. Read anything you can get your hands on by this former professor of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Nettles now teaches at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and is an expert on Baptist history and doctrine.

A Modern Exposition of the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith, by Samuel E. Waldron, Evangelical Press, 1989. (490 pages)

  • The 1689 confession is the Magna Carta of Baptists. This edition includes the Confession in modern English along with extensive note and Scripture references. A stand-alone version of this great work is available for download written in the Windows Help format. Click here to download the zipped version.

Philadelphia Confession of Faith, Grace Abounding Ministries, 1981. (178 pages).

  • The American Baptist adaptation of the 1689 Confession of London. This edition includes a catechism by Benjamin Keach.

Southern Baptists and the Doctrine of Election, by Robert B. Self, Sprinkle Publications: Harrisonburg, VA, 1988. (170 pages)

  • Though brief, this is the best source book for a study of the history of the doctrines of Grace within the Southern Baptist tradition.

When Heaven Touched Earth, by Roy Fish, Need of the Times Publishers, 1996. (343 pages).

  • This is a much needed account of the prayer revivals of 1858 and 1859. While short on doctrinal insight, this work is an excellent addition to any library. If you know of other good Baptist books please e-mail the Webmaster
