CHURCHES


Early Europeans brought the Roman Catholic faith to this area and its presence is still strong in many traditional observances like Mardi Gras and the Blessing of the Fishing Fleet in Bayou la Batre. The Greek Orthodox church at Malbis is a prized centerpiece of the community. There are two Jewish congregations.

Protestant churches are by far the most numerous and every major denomination is represented here. This diversity gives a richness to the fabric of life on the Gulf Coast.
