COASTAL ALABAMA

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
All through the year there are events and celebrations that contribute to the enjoyment of coastal Alabama. Mobile's first night is a citywide art's festival and non-alcoholic New Year's Eve party for all ages.

The Senior Bowl football classic features college all-star players and is televised nationally each year.
Senior Bowl
Mobile has three professional sports teams: the Bay Bears Baseball Team (playing in the newly constructed Hank Aaron Stadium), the Revelers Soccer team, and The Mysticks, an ice hockey team which plays in the Civic Center Arena. College sports are also popular in the area, and community teams give non-professionals an opportunity to get in the game.

The Mobile Carnival tradition is older than New Orleans', and for color and pageantry, Mardi Gras in Mobile is unsurpassed. The Azalea Trail Run festival and Mobile's tour of historic homes are favorite spring activities. In mid-summer, Mobile is host to America's Junior Miss program, a competition which honors college-bound senior girls from all 50 states. In the fall, the focus is on delectable seafood at Gulf Shores' Shrimp Festival which also features arts, crafts, and music. Mobile, Fairhope, Daphne, and Point Clear have excellent arts and crafts festivals. The Alabama Gulf Coast, particularly the Eastern Shore, attracts artists so music, theater and visual arts play a big part in the culture.
At world-renowned Bellingrath Gardens and Home there's a year-round, changing display of flowers, and at Fort Morgan, Civil War reenactment and living history displays happen often. The popular Batleship Alabama is known as our state's number one tourist attraction. Deep sea fishing tournaments and boating events are also staged frequently all along the coast.
