In 1924
a group of concerned citizens here in Mobile started the Mobile Association for
the Blind to create job opportunities for people who were blind. Those
small beginnings have developed into a 45,000 square foot manufacturing
facility where many visually impaired individuals who are not able to join the
public workforce at this time are employed in our Sheltered Workshop. Our
organization also provides assistance to other citizens with disabilities.
Counseling and evaluation, skills training and job placement are just some of
the services we provide to help creat the self esteem needed to become a
productive part of society. Sheltered Workshop: Brooms and
Mops Handmade all-natural brooms and mops have been a mainstay of our
product line for many years and are available for sale at many retail and
wholesale outlets and soon online from this Web Site. Plastic Bags
and Much More Many other products for home and business use, from
plastic bags produced on our state-of-the-art machinery, to items produced at
other similar facilities around the state, are available in our extensive
catalog. By maintaining our goal to keep your assurance of quality at the
highest level, you, as our customer can be assured that you will enjoy the use
of our products as your purchases help to preserve an independent way of life
for many individuals with disabilities. A Personal Approach
All clients of MAB receive an individualized program of care and training
designed to meet their needs. From teaching the blind how to take care of their
daily needs in cooking, cleaning, or mobility, to preparing people with
disabilities for fruitful endeavors in the job marketplace, the participants
learn at their own pace and ability level. In the Computer Lab, our clients
learn the basic experience they will need in word processing, spreadsheets, and
other data entry skills. In a Day's Work Our job training
and readiness programs, started in 1986, have successfully prepared and placed
thousands of people with local businesses and manufacturing facilities. Through
our Work Adjustment Program, contracts with local businesses bring meaningful
work tasks that are used for evaluation and job preparedness. Along with
building a work ethic, all participants are paid according to their production
levels. For those with significant disabilities, MAB offers a Supported
Emloyment Program where individuals learn their new job with the help of a Job
Coach. This program has consistently been ranked as one of the most successful
in the state. MAB Offers Job Placement In These Areas:
