1. Daphne.Today the Daphne historic district includes four
beautifully preserved cottages built in the mid-1800s.
2. Montrose. This bayfront area, noted for its healthful springs and
cool breezes, was once the site of a British hospital but today primarily
contains elegant private homes for summer or year-round use.
3. Fairhope. These immigrants from Des Moines, Iowa established a
Single-Tax Colony that is still in existence today and is responsible for the
unusual proportion of public beach and park land. Bayfront and White Avenue
Historic Districts and eight other individual sites.
4. Battles Wharf. One of the earliest landing points for bay steamers
from Mobile. This district contains fourteen homes built between 1842 and 1925.
5. Grand Hotel. There has been a resort hotel since 1822, and the first
hotel was built in 1847. It served as a military hospital for the Confederates.
The hotel has been rebuilt since it burned down in 1870. Grand Hotel III was
built in 1939 and used as a Marine Training School during WWII. It attracts
guests from all over the world and exhibits true hospitality. It is owned by the
Marriott Corporation.
6. Point Clear. The Point Clear District includes 28 homes built south
of the Grand Hotel having been built between 1850 and 1930. Most of these houses
exhibit the rain porch with other climatic accessories.There is public access to
the shorelin via Zundel Road.
7. Brodbeck-Zundel District. This district is at the junction of Scenic
98 and Old Marlow Road. It contains four buildings from the turn of the century.
One is used to sell candies.
8. Magnolia Springs. Fish River is the "highway" of Magnolia
Springs. It is one of the few places in the country that still has mail
delivered by boat. The river is the shortest route from one house to another.
