Carpinus Turczaninovii (Coreana) Korean Hornbeam

Carpinus Turczaninovii (Coreana) Korean Hornbeam is an ornamental tree with a dense, round, and weeping growth habit. Korean Hornbeam requires full sun to partial shade and alkaline to neutral, highly organic, well-drained soils. Tiny, alternate, ovate, simple, toothed leaves with dark green top sides and deeply veined and hairy on the underside turn burgundy in fall. In mid-spring, insignificant male and female catkins appear. The fruit has overlapping bracts that form thin, brown, or copper, hop-like catkins. The bark is a light brown to gray, smooth and speckled, adding ornamental interest. Korean Hornbeam is suitable for containers, woodlands, and specimen plantings.
