Celtis Laevigata Sugarberry Hackberry

Celtis Laevigata Sugarberry Hackberry works well as a shade, street, or lawn tree. The full sun-lover does well in medium to wet, organically rich, well-drained soils. With an upright growth and arching branches, Sugarberry Hackberry avails a rounded, spreading crown form. It bears ovate to oblong-lanceolate, narrow leaves with a rough texture and smooth margins. They are glossy to dull green with uneven leaf bases and turn yellow in fall. Sugarberry Hackberry is monoecious, producing greenish male flowers that appear in clusters and solitary female flowers that bloom from April to May. The female flowers give way to juicy, sweet, berry-like drupes that mature to deep purple and have single, round, brown seeds.
