Description

Euphorbia trigona ‘Rubra’, also known as Red African Milk Tree or Royal Red, is a striking succulent from Central Africa, prized for its vertically columnar, three-angled stems that flush deep burgundy or magenta in bright light, edged with paired thorns and small teardrop leaves. It grows quickly, pioneering impressive sculptural form indoors and outdoors, reaching heights of 6–12 ft (1.8‑3.6 m) with multi-branched structure. A mutation or cultivar of the species, it shifts from red to green under low light—a reversible change indicating optimal light levels. It rarely flowers in cultivation, likely being a hybrid or garden-origin plant. Its white latex is poisonous and can irritate skin or eyes; gloves and eye protection are highly recommended during handling.
