Rhododendron Austrinum Florida Azalea

Rhododendron Austrinum Florida Azalea is a deciduous shrub that grows 6-10 feet tall with loose, uneven branching. In the early spring, thick clusters of fragrant funnel-shaped flowers bloom immediately before or during the emergence of the leaf. From yellow to peach to orange-red, flowers come in a variety of colors. Each flower measures approximately 3/4 inches in length, but the filaments extend upward in an arc to a length of 2 inches before giving birth to woody capsules. Softly pubescent, elliptic to obovate leaves are dull green. Florida Azalea tolerates well-drained humus-rich loams but prefers acidic, light, sandy, well-drained soils in partial shade. They are perfect for hedges.
