Rubus Allegheniensis Blackberry

Rubus Allegheniensis Blackberry is a deciduous shrub that thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers acidic, moist soils with good drainage and high organic matter. The foliage is doubly serrated, ovate, rough, green, and deciduous, with long petioles that become red, orange, or purple in the fall. Allegheny Blackberry has racemes of dome-shaped, five-petaled, white blossoms that form loose terminal clusters at the end of stems from May to June. The plant is ideal for use as a screen, barrier, or hedge. The fruit is thimble-shaped, seedy, black and red blackberries that look like raspberries and appear in July, with a sweet flavor when fully ripened. The growth habit is arching, erect, and spreading. Allegheny Blackberry also attracts butterflies, pollinators, small mammals, songbirds, and specialized bees.
