Description

Xanthorhiza SImplicissima Yellowroot is a deciduous shrub that grows up to 7 inches long and has compound leaves with 5-toothed leaflets. From the bases of the leaf clusters, a drooping, branching panicle of tiny, dark purple-maroon flowers blooms in the spring. Its beautiful fall hue is a bronzy yellow. Yellow dye is produced when the roots and stems are crushed. Yellowroot are best used as groundcover and prefer partial shade. They thrive in moist, acidic, humus-rich, well-draining soils.
