Description

Hesperocyparis (Cupressus) macrocarpa ‘Goldcrest’ is a striking cultivar of the Monterey Cypress native to the central California coast that has been selected for its narrow, upright, columnar habit and vibrant golden-yellow, lemon-scented foliage. The scale-like needles retain bright colour through winter and when crushed emit a fresh citrus aroma. While the species can become a very large, broad-crowned tree in its native habitat, ‘Goldcrest’ maintains a more manageable, erect form suited to accents, specimens or hedges. It’s tolerant of well-drained, sandy or coastal soils and salt spray, making it particularly valuable for seaside or Mediterranean-style landscapes. This cultivar has been recognised with the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit for its ornamental appeal and garden performance.
