Description

The ‘State Fair’ apple is a cold-hardy cultivar developed by the University of Minnesota’s apple-breeding program and released in the late 1970s. It produces medium to large round apples with bright red striped skin over a yellow–green base, and juicy, firm yellow flesh that offers a sweet yet mildly tart flavor suitable for fresh eating or baking. The tree is well-suited for northern climates (zones 3–6) and blooms in spring with pink-blushed white flowers before fruiting in late summer to early fall. It is valued for its resilience and early-season harvest but has a relatively short storage life compared to later-season apples.
