Description

Rhododendron × ‘Nuccio’s Wild Cherry’ is a compact, evergreen Satsuki-type azalea hybrid developed by Nuccio Nursery in California, derived from crosses between R. indicum and R. simsii. It features large, trumpet-shaped, cherry-red to cherry-pink flowers with ruffled petals and often a darker blotch on the upper petals, blooming late spring into early summer. The dark green, lance-shaped foliage remains year-round, forming a naturally mounded shrub that requires little pruning and thrives in acidic, well‑drained soil with partial sun. Growing 3–4 ft tall and wide over about ten years, it is ideal for containers, borders, bonsai, or foundation planting. Its showy, fragrant blooms attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
