Gymnocladus dioicus ‘True North’™—commonly called the True North Kentucky Coffeetree—is a patented, male‑selection cultivar introduced in 2015 by the Univ. of Minnesota’s Woody Landscape Plant Breeding & Genetics Project‒selected in 1972 by Stan Hokanson and Steve McNamara—for its exceptional upright‑oval form, strong branching, blue‑green bipinnate foliage that turns soft yellow in fall, and notably seedless nature, eliminating the messy pods of typical Kentucky coffeetrees. It is highly heat, cold, drought, and urban‑tolerant, adapting to alkaline and compacted soils, making it a standout street or shade tree in tough environments
