Description

Dracaena pethera (formerly Sansevieria kirkii), commonly known as Star Sansevieria, is a striking succulent perennial native to East Africa, particularly Tanzania. Its hallmark features include thick, arching leaves up to 70 cm long and 12.5 cm wide, with undulating reddish‑brown margins and a distinctive pattern of gray‑green to whitish‑brown mottling, overlaid by 3–9 darker longitudinal bands. The plant forms strong rhizomes and a low rosette habit, maturing into a graceful, fan‑shaped clump. In summer, it may produce conical clusters of fragrant greenish‑white flowers, though these are seldom seen indoors. Noted for its adaptability, air‑purifying qualities, and tolerance of low light, drought, and poor soils, it’s prized as a durable accent houseplant and landscape specimen.
