Description

The Monkey Tail Cactus, Cleistocactus winteri subsp. colademononis, is a striking Bolivian native characterized by long, trailing, cylindrical stems densely cloaked in soft, white, hair‑like spines that evoke the appearance of a monkey’s tail. Originally described as Hildewintera colademononis and reclassified later, it grows epilithically on high‑altitude cliffs in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Under cultivation, it thrives in hanging baskets, cascading pendulously, and produces vibrant red tubular flowers throughout the growing season. It has earned the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
