Description

The shrub Leucothoe axillaris ‘Twisting Red’ (‘Opstal20’) is a compact, evergreen broad-leaf selection of coastal dog-hobble known for its striking twisted foliage and vibrant seasonal color shifts. It features new growth with rich burgundy-red tones that mature to glossy dark green, then transition to purplish-red in winter, while producing small urn-shaped white flowers in late spring. This cultivar was developed as a dwarf, richly colored version of the species, offering excellent texture in shaded or part-shade gardens and is suitable for containers or small spaces. It was recognized with the Zilver Plantarium award in 2011.
