Description

Dyckia rariflora is a terrestrial bromeliad native to the ironstone outcrops of southeastern Brazil, particularly the Quadrilátero Ferrífero region in Minas Gerais. This species is adapted to thrive in harsh conditions, including high radiation, temperature extremes, and nutrient-poor, acidic soils. It forms compact rosettes of stiff, narrow, coppery-green to glaucous leaves with small, widely spaced spines. In spring and summer, it produces tall inflorescences adorned with orange to white flowers, attracting hummingbirds. Unlike many bromeliads, Dyckia rariflora does not die after flowering and can continue to grow and bloom in subsequent years. Its resilience and striking appearance make it a valuable addition to rock gardens and xeriscapes.
