Chrysobalanus Icaco Cocoplum is a medium-sized, upright evergreen shrub with creeping nature. It is cloaked in dense, rounded foliage. The new leaves have a yellowish-green or reddish tinge and dark-green upper sides and mature to a matte-green shade. Axillary masses of blossoms appear from late winter to late summer, accentuating the simple, alternate, and round leaves. They are followed by green, edible, plum-like drupes that ripen to black color from late spring through summer. Cocoplum makes an excellent informal hedge, specimen, or ground cover. This coastal beauty thrives in full sun to light shade and grows well in clay to sandy, well-drained soils.
