Description

Cryptanthus bivittatus 'Earth Star' is a compact, terrestrial bromeliad native to Brazil, prized for its striking rosette of strap‑shaped leaves that spread outward in a star‑like pattern, often exhibiting bold stripes in shades of green, pink, red, ivory, or silver. Reaching about 6–8″ tall with a spread up to 12″, it thrives in bright, indirect light with moderate humidity and well‑drained, acidic soil. Like other bromeliads, it blooms once—producing small white flowers—then dies, but survives via offsets or "pups". The cultivar ‘Pink Starlite’ has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
