Fothergilla Gardenii Dwarf Fothergilla is a slow-growing, dwarf ornamental shrub with a compact, mounded habit that grows 2-3 feet tall with an equal spread. Before the leaves emerge in the spring, apetalous blooms are produced in thick terminal spikes resembling bottlebrushes. Only Dwarf Fothergilla's male flowers have color in the form of showy, fragrant white filaments and yellow anthers. In the fall, the thick, hairy, oblong to obovate, blue-green to green leaves turn to vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red. This deciduous shrub prefers full sun to some shade and acidic, organically rich, well-drained soils. Dwarf Fothergilla is best used for hedges, borders, and foundations.
