Heterocentron Elegans, commonly known as Spanish Shawl is hardy in zones 9 to 11, but adaptable as a houseplant in other zones. It grows like a groundcover, with a wiry, low matt of small, elliptical leaves, closely spaced. The highlight is the fuchsia blooms, growing off red, hairy brachts, which persist even after the spring-to-fall show of blooms ceases. Spanish Shawl makes a delightful 'spiller' in the annual container garden as well. Needing part shade to part sun, with ample water, this plant will cover the ground completely in short order.
