Acer Palmatum Sherwood Flame Japanese Maple is prized for the reddish-purple foliage that remains vibrant through spring and summer. In early fall, the foliage acquires a reddish-green hue before becoming scarlet-red. The palmate leaves of Sherwood Flame Japanese Maple consist of seven serrated lobes tapering to sharp terminal points. Closer to the bases of the leaves, the lobes are deeply cut. Reddish-purple blooms appear on Sherwood Flame Japanese Maple in April. The round-spreading ornamental tree can be used as an accent, specimen, or screen. It prefers moist, organically rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade.
