Description

Ferocactus glaucescens, commonly known as the Blue Barrel Cactus, is a slow-growing, globular cactus native to the limestone hills of Hidalgo, Mexico. It features a distinctive bluish-green body with 11 to 15 pronounced ribs adorned with clusters of long, pale yellow spines. In late spring and summer, it produces funnel-shaped yellow flowers at its apex, followed by white, rounded fruits. As the plant matures, it may develop multiple heads, forming a dense mound. Recognized for its ornamental value and adaptability to arid landscapes, Ferocactus glaucescens has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
