Calycanthus X Venus Sweet Shrub, having a compact growth habit, is a dense, deciduous, multi-stemmed shrub. Venus Sweet Shrub is covered in glossy, dark-green, oval leaves that, as fall approaches, become golden-yellow to caramel-yellow. The shrub produces enormous, fragrant, creamy white flowers with yellow and purple central markings from late spring to mid-summer. When crushed, the seed pods, bark, and leaves release a spicy scent. The shrub works best for border, foundation, and specimen planting. It thrives in moderately fertile, moist, humus-rich, well-drained soils under full sun or part shade.
