Leersia Oryzoides Rice Cutgrass

Leersia oryzoides, commonly known as Rice Cutgrass, is a perennial grass native to wetlands and moist habitats across North America. It features coarse, flat blades that can grow up to 3 feet tall and have sharp, serrated edges, giving it the name "cutgrass." The grass produces small, rice-like seed heads in late summer, which provide food for wildlife. Thriving in wet, marshy areas, Rice Cutgrass is often used for erosion control along streambanks, ponds, and wetlands. Its tolerance for saturated soils and ability to spread through rhizomes make it an excellent choice for stabilizing wetland environments.
