Acacia farnesiana, commonly known as Sweet Acacia or Huisache, is a small tree or shrub native to the tropical and subtropical Americas, including parts of the southern United States, Mexico, and Central America. It is renowned for its fragrant, golden-yellow, puffball-like flowers that bloom profusely from late winter through early spring, and often continue sporadically throughout the year in warmer climates. The plant's feathery, bipinnate leaves and thorny branches add to its distinctive appearance. Historically, Sweet Acacia has been valued for its aromatic flowers, which are used in the perfume industry to produce cassie absolute, a fragrance ingredient. Additionally, its tannin-rich bark and pods have applications in leather tanning and dye production. The species epithet "farnesiana" honors Odoardo Farnese, an Italian nobleman whose family's gardens in Rome were among the first in Europe to cultivate the plant in the early 17th century.
