Acer Macrophyllum Big Leaf Maple is a deciduous tree with an upright habit. Big Leaf Maple is adorned with drooping masses of tiny, aromatic, yellowish-green flowers that bloom in spring. The blooms are followed by 2-winged samaras with pinkish-red tinges that turn brown on maturing. The samaras survive through winter. The deeply lobed leaves of Big Leaf Maple emerge burgundy in spring, turn dark green on maturing, and acquire orange and yellow tones in fall. The shade tree performs best in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soils. Big Leaf Maple is great for lawns, woodlands, and naturalized areas.
