Description

Araucaria Araucana Monkey Puzzle is shrouded with leathery, overlapping, shiny dark green leaves. Monkey Puzzle's leaves are short and pointed, appearing in spiral clusters surrounding the branches. It is open, symmetrical, and has a loosely pyramidal shape when young. On maturing, Monkey Puzzle loses its lower branches and acquires an umbrella-like form. The male and female cones emerge on separate trees most of the time. Monkey Puzzle loves full sun to partial shade and moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Cones appearing on female shrubs are quite huge and ripen in three years. Monkey Puzzle is best for coastal areas.
