Description

Clematis is a woody, climbing vine with a vigorous growth rate. Until several years old, the woody branches are quite fragile. The leaves are opposite and divided into leaflets and leafstalks, which twist and curl around supporting structures to help the plant climb. Clematis thrives in full sun and cool, moist soil that is well-drained. Spring-blooming clematis blossom on side shoots of the previous year's stems, summer/fall blooming clematis flower only on the ends of new stems, and twice-flowering clematis do both.
