Description

Lobelia erinus, commonly known as edging, garden, or trailing lobelia, is a low-growing herbaceous plant native to southern Africa. Often grown as a tender perennial in zones 10–11 but treated as an annual in cooler climates, it forms prostrate or scrambling masses 8–15 cm tall with slim, serrated leaves and loose clusters of two-lipped tubular flowers. Flower colors range from blue-violet to white, pink, magenta, or red, frequently with a contrasting yellow or white eye. Its prolific, cool-weather blooms and trailing habit make it ideal for edging, containers, window boxes, and butterfly gardens.
