Prunus Mexicana Mexican Plum is a tiny, upright tree best suited as a landscape tree for sites with less foot traffic. It showcases yellow-green ovate to elliptic leaves with soft hairy undersides and double-toothed margins that turn yellow or orange-red during fall. Mexican Plum produces clusters of aromatic, white flowers in spring. The blossoms give way to edible plums that emerge yellow but ripen to rose, lavender, or purple, covered with a gray-glaucous bloom from July to September. The ornamental tree thrives in rich, well-drained soils under full sun to partial shade. It has an attractive reddish-gray smooth bark that matures to blue-gray with a rough texture.
