Description

Quercus Ilex Holly Oak is a large, evergreen tree with a huge, rounded crown. It grows best in rich, moist, well-drained soils under full sun to partial shade. Holly Oak is covered in leathery leaves with glossy, dark green upper surfaces and gray or yellow hair on the undersides. The foliage is spiny-edged when young but becomes smooth-edged with age. In early spring, tiny female clusters and dangling male catkins of yellow-green, inconspicuous flowers appear. The female flowers give way to tiny, egg-shaped acorns. This shade tree is ideal for shade or street trees, hedges, and screens.
