Description

Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Cassian’ (Cassian Fountain Grass) is a compact, clump-forming, warm‑season ornamental grass recognized for its graceful, flowing mound of fine-textured green foliage that arches outward, topped in mid‑ to late summer by cream‑pink, bottle-brush–style plumes that persist into fall and winter. Its foliage transforms into a vivid palette of orange to red in autumn, offering strong seasonal interest, and the dried seed-heads lend architectural winter appeal, especially when adorned with frost or snow. This cultivar, selected by Kurt Bluemel and named for German horticulturalist Cassian Schmidt, is slightly taller and reportedly hardier than ‘Hameln’.
