Description

Ilex crenata ‘Red Sky’ is a narrow, upright evergreen holly cultivar selected for both structural and seasonal interest. Its new growth emerges a striking reddish-bronze before maturing to deep green — adding seasonal color to landscapes — and it develops a tight, columnar form that matures to about 8′ tall and 3′ wide, making it an excellent choice for vertical accents, hedges, screening, or container use. ‘Red Sky’ also produces small dark berries, and its dense habit remains neat even with minimal pruning. Introduced by the Southern Living Plant Collection (under the name “Red Sky™ Holly”), it was recently recognized by Fine Gardening as one of its “Best New Plants for 2023,” highlighting its improved form and seasonal color compared with classic columnar hollies.
