Description

Cereus peruvianus f. monstruosus, commonly known as Montrose or Monstrose Apple Cactus, is a crested or “monstrose” form of the Peruvian apple cactus (synonym Cereus repandus), prized for its sculptural, twisted, deeply ribbed gray-green stems and irregular, columnar branching habit. Native to South America (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay), it is typically cultivated for its striking form rather than wild occurrence. This spectacular specimen produces large, fragrant, night-blooming white flowers in early summer, followed by edible red or yellow globose fruit with white flesh. Reaching up to 15 ft tall in cultivation, it’s a slow to moderate grower valued in xeriscapes, large containers, or heated conservatories.
