Description

Datura metel ‘Double Purple’, also known as Devil’s Trumpet or Purple Hindu Datura, is a stunning cultivar of the shrubby, short-lived perennial D. metel, prized for its bold, double‑layered purple and white trumpet blooms (6–8″ long) that exude a strong fragrance during the evening and into the night, typically from early summer through first frost. This upward‑facing, broadleaf, deciduous plant reaches about 3–5 ft tall and 2–4 ft wide, offering a tropical, striking presence in containers, borders, and patios. All parts of the plant are highly toxic, and it thrives in rich, well‑drained loam in full sun to light shade. The cultivar derives from the ‘Fastuosa’ group of double/triple‑flowering Datura, selected for dramatic color contrast and long bloom duration.
