Description

Rhododendron x austrinum ‘Kelsey’s Glow’ is a large, deciduous native azalea selection (a R. austrinum cross) prized for its clouds of very fragrant, bright yellow, honeysuckle-like flowers brushed with reddish hues that open in mid-April, just as the foliage begins to emerge. Reaching about 10–12 feet tall and nearly as wide, it forms an open, upright shrub with medium green leaves that fits beautifully into woodland edges, naturalized areas, and foundation or border plantings. Bred from the heat-tolerant Florida flame azalea, it inherits excellent vigor and adaptation to the warm, humid Southeast while still performing in cooler parts of its hardiness range. The parent species, Florida azalea (R. austrinum), has been recognized as the American Rhododendron Society’s “Rhododendron of the Year” for the Great Lakes Region (2020), underscoring the ornamental merit of this native azalea group in gardens.
