A well-designed irrigation system distributes water at a flow rate and pressure that’s appropriate for the plants, turfgrass and trees it’s feeding. This is where pressure regulator valves come in. They take a client’s source water pressure and adjust it for more efficient watering and less run-off. While many types of irrigation pressure regulators exist, these are the most common:
  • A pressure-sustaining valve regulates the back pressure to minimize PSI drops throughout the water line.
  • A pressure-reducing valve maintains a preset water pressure through all other valves in the chain while accounting for changes at the source.
  • A pressure relief valve is a safety device that vents any pressure above the set maximum with no minimum.
